Who is Alvin Bowen?

Alvin Bowen was a 2008 draft pick by the Buffalo Bills. They chose him early in the fifth round. He wandered from Buffalo to Washington to Seattle. He appeared in one Seattle preseason game but was waived on August 17th. On August 20th the Jaguars signed him but released him on September 4th. He was signed to the practice squad.

Alvin Bowen was from Iowa State. In his junior year he recorded 155 tackles. Sounds like a lot? It was second highest in the nation.  During the Bills training camp, he suffered a season ending knee injury.

I think I see a Gene Smith tactic brewing here. Find players who were hurt and follow their progress back. If Alvin Bowen was a fifth round draft choice in 2008, and his knee is better now, is he an almost free 5th round draft choice today?

I don’t know. I know this, Alvin Bowen has very little if any game experience. He will be on the active roster for Sunday’s game with the Chargers. Watch for him on special teams.
