Our friend Ryan Messick from Inside the Iggles sent the full Jack Del Rio press conference transcript to me. I noticed a few extra question that Tania Ganguli missed, at least I think she did. So here they are. If she or someone else covered them, my apologies.
On whether any one in particular stood out to him tonight in a positive way:
“As I said when we started, I think the two young returners gave me something to smile about. I thought [WR] Tiquan [Underwood] and [WR] Troy [Williamson] both hit the vertical stretch, which was something to smile about. I thought Luke McCown played well as our backup quarterback, which is good to see.”
On whether David Garrard was handicapped by the events surrounding him in the game:
“It’s hard for me to say sitting here just moments after the game. In fairness to that position, I’d rather see the tape before I make that kind of statement of declaration. Clearly, we’ve got to do better, offensively. If you’re the trigger man, you’ve got the biggest say-so in whether or not you get some of those things done. We’ll take a look at it. I know that we took more shots downfield with Luke later in the game. In fairness to David, we gave more vertical looks to Luke than we did David.”
On whether the vertical looks downfield will be a bigger part of the game this season:
“We hope to continue to develop that part of our offense. We think, though today wouldn’t be a good indication, that we do know how to run the ball well and that we have a great running back in Maurice [Jones-Drew] and that people have to stack the box to stop him and when they do, there are opportunities down the field so that’s definitely something we need to work hard on.”
