Jack Del Rio promises better tackling!

In a surprising statement to ESPN reporter Paul Kuharsky, Jack Del Rio promised better tackling by the Jaguar defense.

Not to be out done, offensive line coach Andy Heck also promised “better blocking by the offensive line”.  Todd Monken, receivers coach, promised “better catching”.

Better tackling really is needed and despite trying to be funny, I appreciate the emphasis on it.  The difference between the Steelers 300 yards or less defense and our 350 yards allowed defense is… tackling.

I can’t help but think this is a message directed primarily at Reggie Nelson. When you combine this comment and Gene Smith’s about the liability we have in the safety position, it seems clear to me.  The second Indianapolis game last year had Dallas Clark run for a touchdown after Reggie had a clear shot at him and only shoulder bumped him further down field.  I know this message is for the entire team, but if the shoe fits…  We will see.

Thank the Lord! Better tackling is all I want for Christmas! And if they could give me that present early (like the first game), I would be quite happy!

I’m glad Jack said that; but I think Vito Stellino wrote couple weeks earlier; that Jack said this in 2009 too….

And we know how that went..

Of course; new year; new chances.
