Jaguars Select Eugene Monroe With The Eighth Overall Pick

Posted by: Jeanne

In the 2009 Draft, the Jaguars selected Eugene Monroe with the Eighth overall Pick.

With the Raiders picking Darius Heyward-Bey, the Jaguars opportunities opened wide. Things did not go as planned exactly because the Jets jumped to the the fifth pick to snatch up Sanchez. It seemed that the Jaguars were going to trade down so some one else could get Sanchez.

But with the eighth pick the Jaguars had Michael Crabtree, Eugene Monroe or B.J. Raji to select from.

So who was it going to be?

Eugene Monroe, who proudly held up his Jaguar jersey for all at Radio City Music Hall to see.

This is a very good thing for Jacksonville because we were hurting on the offensive line. The Jaguars were fortunate for him to slide to number 8. Any of the three players listed above would have been a good pick up but Eugene Monroe will be a great addition to the team.
