After trading the 7th round pick that they acquired by trading Tony McDaniels, the Jaguars were left with just the two compensatory picks that they were awarded.
With the first of the picks, the Jaguars selected RB Rashad Jennings from Liberty. Rashad was on Twitter during the draft and I watched as he got more and more disappointed as the rounds went by. I sent him a tweet telling to keep his head up and that I hoped the Jags would pick him up. Sure enough they did and we got a steal at the end of the [...]
The first thing you will say when I say Zach Miller from Nebraska-Omaha is: Who?
Believe me, I said the same thing too when I saw the pick come in. So I did some research and I like what I see.
He was a college QB, similar in size and speed to a Tim Tebow, but projected at the NFL as a TE. Here are some nasty videos of him in college that shows the moves that he has in the open field:
Now I know this could bring back flashbacks of Matt Jones but remember this is a 6th [...]
With the 8th pick in the 5th round the Jaguars take another WR, this time it is Jarret Miller from Rice.
Though his workout numbers will not blow you away, he has been one of the most productive WRs over the last 4 years in college football. In his time at Rice he has accumulated 292 catches, 4138 yards and 60 touchdowns.
One thing is for sure, the man could turn on a dime. Just watch this video from draftguys.com and you will be convinced:
With the 7th pick of the 4th round the Jaguars have taken another player from Arizona, WR Mike Thomas.
While Mike Thomas may be short in stature at only 5′8, he is quick and has been productive for 4 years at Arizona. As a matter of fact he is the all time leading receiver in PAC-10 history with 259 catches. He posted a 40 yard dash time of 4.40 at the combine and had the second best 3 cone drill.
Since he is only 5′8 he will probably compete with Dennis Northcutt at the slot position.
Here is a video analysis [...]
The Jaguars have made a splash at the beginning of day two but not only taking DT Terrance Knighton from Temple with the 8th pick in the 3rd round but they also trade to pick Derek Cox CB from William and Mary with the 9th pick of the 3rd Round.
To get the 9th pick the Jaguars had to give up our second round pick from 2010 and one of our three 7th round picks this year. This may seem like a lot to give up for a relatively unknown CB from a small school but Cox’s recent pro day [...]
Have you ever sat and watched team highlights? I am not talking about your own team, but highlights of the other 31 teams in the NFL. Something that always bothered me is that the Jaguars are often times on the wrong side of those highlights. They are the ones being smashed up or smoked by wide receivers. The most common clip? David Garrard. On his butt. Underneath some huge guy like Albert Hayensworth.
We discovered very quickly how hard it was to get a football game started when there wasn’t anyone protecting the quarterback. Not only that, a run game [...]
After going OL with Eugene Monroe in the first round, the Jaguars once again address the OL and take Eben Britton from Arizona.
Even though Britton played LT at Arizona he is projected to play either RT or G in the NFL. Gene Smith must be strictly sticking to the Best Available Player strategy if he is willing to take another Offensive Lineman so high.
So what do you think? Do the Jags have a great young OL for the future or should we have addressed other needs?
Eugene Monroe was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars as the 8th overall draft pick. Last season, Garrard was pressured and knocked down to the point where it was difficult for him to do his jobs. Watch these clips from Monroe’s college career and know that you (and Garrard) can breathe a little easier.
And as additional bonus, here is a video collection of his combine drills and his 40.
In the 2009 Draft, the Jaguars selected Eugene Monroe with the Eighth overall Pick.
With the Raiders picking Darius Heyward-Bey, the Jaguars opportunities opened wide. Things did not go as planned exactly because the Jets jumped to the the fifth pick to snatch up Sanchez. It seemed that the Jaguars were going to trade down so some one else could get Sanchez.
But with the eighth pick the Jaguars had Michael Crabtree, Eugene Monroe or B.J. Raji to select from.
So who was it going to be?
Eugene Monroe, who proudly held up his Jaguar jersey for all at Radio City Music Hall to [...]
