There are many Super Bowls where the favored team takes care of business and puts their under dog opponents away. Super Bowl XXXIII (Broncos 34 – Falcons 19) and XXXV (Ravens 34 – Giants 7) are the most most recent games to come to mind. But then their are the games that surprise us all like last year’s upset or the Patriots knocking off the Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI. The hard part is figuring out if the Cardinals are more like the ’98 Falcons or more like the ’01 Patriots.
The Steelers will play this game well, I don’t think there is any doub about that. They have been through the ringer this year with one of the toughest schedules in memory and a rash of injuries. But through it all the Steelers prevailed.
So why should I doubt them? In football, things happen that can not be explained with statics or records. Some teams just seem to have a chip on their shoulder or destiny on their side. This year the Cardinals are one of those teams. Throughout the playoffs they have played like they have had something to prove. It took the utter collapse of their team to the Patriots to wake them up. The Colts received the same wake up on the way to their Super Bowl win after being demolished by the Jacksonville Jaguars in ’06.
Final Prediction: Arizona Cardinals 28 – Pittsburgh Steelers 23
