There were two things that the Jacksonville Jaguars were known for. A strong running game and a hard hitting defense. Neither of those things existed this year so it really a surprise to see some one get cut because of it? We already knew that Gregg Williams was shopping around. Now we know what team he will be going to. Gregg Williams will be replacing the spot of Gary Gibbs as the New Orleans Saints’ defensive coordinator.
The Saints allowed 339.5 yards per game last year, ranking them 23rd in the NFL. Unfortunately, going by pure stats alone, they are not raising the bar very much. Under Gregg Williams, the Jaguars allowed 331 yards at a rank of 17th over all. However, that is not the usual Williams track record. In five of the last nine years, his defenses have ranked in the top 10, including having teams in the top 3 three times. A lot of people have argued that Williams was not given the proper weapons to work with in order to have a successful offense. The other side argues that the Jaguars brought him in to create a pass rush, something that was sorely lacking throughout the 2008 season.
This is probably a good move for the Saints. They have an offense. Hopefully they can get a defense and start winning games.
