The Jaguars are looking to snap their four game losing streak against the Green Bay Packers today at home. Unfortunately, the Jaguars are starting a second or third quarter preseason team against a real NFL team. With big name players like Rashean Mathis, Fred Taylor and Greg Jones out for the game it is hard to see how the Jaguars are going to win. Something can be said for the city, though. Despite the abysmal season, fans are still showing for the games. Our next home game is Thursday against the Colts, a guaranteed sell out. Hooray, we avoided blackouts this year!
With a lot of big players out on the offensive side of the ball, it will be up to the defense to stop Aaron Rogers from progressing down the field for a Packers victory. I know it is hard for some people to realize this because we’re losing this year but our defense is much, much better than it was last year. It is our offense being unable to put up points that has killed us. There is one job for the offense: they must be able to stay on the field long enough so that the defense has some time to rest.
Aaron Rogers is going to look a lot like Brett today: he is going to be a gunslinger. With Rashean out of the game, the potential for the long ball is quite high. The Packers defense isn’t going to have to dare the Jaguars to throw the ball. They don’t have any option for running or passing. You can’t give Maurice Jones-Drew a hand off every time and expect to win the game.
