Problems In The Locker Room? Just Because You Say It Doesn’t Make It True.
You know what is awesome? Sensational headlines.
Oh, wait. No. That isn’t awesome at all.
Vic Carcucci wrote an article for NFL.com called “With season slipping away, Del Rio losing grip on his team”. That is a pretty lofty claim that would explain a lot. However, if you glance over the article there is nothing supporting that claim. Not even an anonymous source. There is just a detailed description of the problems the team as a whole have been experiencing.
So. Basically. It is a misleading headline to make you speculate the reason why the Super Bowl contenders Jacksonville Jaguars turned into the Losing Record Jacksonville Jaguars. We all want our quick answers so we can have a legitimate reason to write them off. Blaming Jack Del Rio is easier than actually digging into the actual problems.
The Time’s Union columnist Gene Frenette took on this article head on:
Well, thanks for that newsbreaking possibility. I guess we should also watch whether Aaron Rodgers has the mental toughness to follow Brett Favre, whether the Dallas Cowboys will implode when Pacman Jones returns, and if coach Norv Turner will lose his grip on the 4-6 San Diego Chargers, who were being touted as Super Bowl contenders even more so than Jacksonville when the season began.
He hits it on the head precisely.

I am a huge Jags fan and I have the best advice for the team… they will not like to hear this but its time to botch the season and purposely lose every game so that WE improve our draft #. I have been very dissapointed with Del Rio’s drafting and I want to take over for this years draft. WE HAVE TO GET MICHAEL CRABTREE OR MICHAEL JENKINS!!! I am a huge Jags fan and this is what we need badly. Del Rio better not make another dumb pick. This is no joke.
November 23rd, 2008 at 12:48 amI know what you’re getting at and I have heard the argument before but what message does it send to say, “Hey guys, let’s throw away this season”? Players and coaches don’t play the game to lose. They don’t get paid to lose. If any team actually did that purposely and the rest of the league found out they would probably take away the draft picks based on the fact that they basically fixed games.
November 23rd, 2008 at 9:41 amOK, somebody give me the name of a Jag’s player that you would consider to be a leader in that locker room? I’ve tried and haven’t come up with one. After last week’s loss, Garrard said he’s going to lead by example, show up on time, do his job, yadda-yadda-yadda. That’s the level to which leadership has deteriorated on this team. It’s pathetic.
Del Rio is only a minor part of the problem. Imagine an army of only one general and no other rank but privates. No captains, no corporals, no leutenants. It wouldn’t work. That’s the Jags locker room. And it doesn’t work.
November 24th, 2008 at 1:47 pmYeah. It isn’t that the Jaguars have only one problem that is easily solved. They have a whole slew of problems that they have to deal with.
November 24th, 2008 at 7:56 pmJeanne! Your hair looks pretty. I had season tickets this year (which I was of course not going to use) and COULDN’T EVEN GIVE THEM AWAY!!!!!
yeah…. they suck.
P.S.
November 25th, 2008 at 12:28 amHope you’re doing well. Married life rocks!
P.S.S.
GO GATORS!!!!
yes jeane, your hair does look lovely. i like it that way. like the civilian clothes too. nice top. just thought i’d stop by and say hey. jag fans, heads up, there ain’t anyone that knows what an up and down season feels like more than cowboy fans. i think it was the jags inability to run effectively like last year. this team needs a strong pounding run game. we at dallas do too. we have the barbarian and don’t seem to use him to the best of his abilities? we have to rely on the pass game too much. you have to give garrard more targets too, and that will help the line and keep your D fresh. just my observations? hey i could be wrong, but for you guys it’s just back to basic football and this team can win???
November 29th, 2008 at 2:51 pmand rae, interesting name, i named my daughter that for her middle name. dana rae
November 29th, 2008 at 7:50 pmWe have tried to run the ball but we’re having some serious problems doing it. Part of the reason why is because teams stack against the run. Another problem is that our offensive line can’t block so Fred and Maurice have to break three tackles before they can get to the line of scrimmage.
Also, I was Rae’s bride’s maid. Her full name is Diana Rae.
December 1st, 2008 at 8:28 amDAve you spend more time over here than my blog! Knock it off. Jeanne is married!

December 11th, 2008 at 10:33 amoh and i’m sorry i forgot, but the reason i came over today was to wish my best to your mike walker. i just read about the personal trama he’s been thru the last couple of weeks losing his friend and dad in the same week, and just wanted to say to you jeane, do a story on this guy, he’s been thru the mill. sounds like he wants to do like jones-drew and have the nfl allow him to change his name on his jersy to honor the memory of his dad. nice story. thanks for your time jeane.
