Troy Williamson Looking For Retribution
Troy Williamson. The Jacksonville Jaguars picked the guy up for a fifth round draft pick from the Vikings. That statement right there tells you how willingly the Vikings gave him up, especially when you consider he was drafted seventh over all. It seems as if the Jaguars picked him up with a “what could it hurt?” mentality. They needed a potential big play receiver and they were willing to take a chance on Troy Williamson.
So far, Williamson has gotten the Jaguars one touchdown. Why is this? Well. It is Troy Williamson, right? That question answers itself, right? Not exactly. He hasn’t really been given the opportunity to show what he has. Garrard isn’t a guy who throws down field often and that is pretty much the only thing you see Williamson do. He may not be the best receiver in the world but the guy can run. Fast.
Williamson has a personal game coming up for him. This Sunday, the Jaguars take on the Vikings in Jacksonville. This isn’t a regular “player plays old team with new team” story. There is a lot of resentment coming from Williamson about his old coach. While playing with the Vikings, Coach Brad Childress withheld Williamson’s paycheck because Williamson went to his grandmother’s funeral and visited his comatose brother. That, I believe, is a pretty legitimate reason to dislike some one.
“I mean if I could duke it out with Coach Childress that’d be a different story,” Williamson said. “But other than that, this is just another game to play on Sunday.”
Hopefully, Williamson will bring that anti-Childress energy to the game and perform well. We as Jaguar fans don’t have much to cling to at this point and if a guy like Williamson could help in a big win over his former team, I would be beyond sastified.
If there is one thing I am still slightly optimistic about it is our receiver situation. Matt Jones has stepped up and hopefully Jerry Porter and Troy Williamson will as well. I know it is delusional but there isn’t all that much left for me to hope for.

Let’s hope Troy’s rage doesn’t make his hands shake. He has enough problems with them as it is.
November 21st, 2008 at 11:54 amIt was a 6th round draft pick we traded, not a 5th rounder.
Jimmy Kennedy was just cut…. That makes two “calculated risks” by Shack Harris that haven’t panned out. Jimmy Kennedy and Troy Williamson.
What do you think of Shack Harris
November 25th, 2008 at 1:24 pmWhoops! I thought it was a fifth round pick. That is what I get for not doing research and going on what I assumed.
What about Jerry Porter? I mean, I know he was injured but he hasn’t turned into the go to guy we thought he could be. On the other hand, Troy Williamson and Jerry Porter are kind of go deep guys and can Garrard make that pass? We’ve seen him do it once all season.
I think there are obvious flaws with our ability to draft what we think we’re drafting and I don’t know if that is all the fault of Shack Harris. We have been chasing the spirit of Jimmy Smith since he left us, though. Wide receivers are hard to pick right because so many of them bust or are just plain mediocre. Derrick Harvey is hard to judge because he didn’t even play in the preseason so this whole year is catch up. There is one thing to be said about the Jags, though. They can really draft well in the later rounds. It is that first round we do terrible on.
I am not sure how much of a leash is going to be given to the front office after this year. Part of me thinks there will be a full clean out. Another part thinks that we’ll wait another year and see what happens. I just hope we improve in the off season.
