Jaguars Richard Collier Paralyzed, Had Left Leg Amputated

Posted by: Jeanne

After sitting in intensive care for nearly a month, the news of Richard Collier has finally come out. The Jaguars offensive linemen is paralyzed below the waist and had his left leg amputated. That is better than the rumors that had been circulating but only just. The rumors said both legs were gone.

Collier was taken to Shands Jacksonville after being shot fourteen times in Riverside. The injuries were in his right shoulder, back, lower spine, groin, right buttock and left leg.

To state the obvious, Collier will not be returning to play football. His agent said that realization crushed him but that he is going to work on rebuilding his life.

“This is a smart kid and he’s got a degree. He’s got some goals and some things he wants to accomplish. He’ll move on,” Jankovich said.

Because of how extensive his injuries were, Collier himself didn’t fully grasp his situation until a few days ago.

No arrests have been made. Police have said that Collier was targeted and are offering a reward for any information.

Our thoughts are with him.

(A small part of me wants to see Mark Zupan get ahold of him.)
