A Note To Titans Fans

Posted by: Jeanne

You may be ecstatic about your 17-10 defensive dominance over the Jaguars yesterday. That is fine. You have the right to be happy that first day. You’re allowed that day of euphoria after winning. However, the honeymoon is over. It is Monday and things have to be assessed.

You want to wait until you play a team with all their starters in on offensive line before your judge your defense. Sure, you guys looked great roughing up David Garrard and stopping our run game. However, we were missing key men on our offensive line.

Now, I don’t expect you to know the inner workings of the Jaguars’ lines. However, I am going to give you a run down of people who were out/injured by the end of that game:

Starting Center Brad Meester

Starting Guard Mo Williams

Starting Guard Vince Manuwai

Richard Collier rotates with starting left tackle Khalif Barnes.

So consider that you were playing against our reserves as you stopped our run game (who had no blocks). Consider that as a reason to  why you got to David Garrard to easily.

Rashean Mathis said it best:

“With our losing two starters on our offensive line, it allowed a good defensive line to look great.”

jeanne, what sort of sore loser(s) are you letting write on this thing? i mean really, it shouldn’t have even been that close except that vy threw an awful interception pretty much out of his own end zone that led to a score 3 plays later. plus the fact that we weren’t worth a flip on punt or kickoff coverage (avg. starting field position jags-own 43/titans-own 20). i don’t care what the reason or excuse, the jags got outplayed and outcoached in nashville. and listen, just so i don’t get a ton of crap for being a titans homer, i think you guys are good and will be in it at the end fighting with us for a playoff spot, but there have been big expectations laid on your team, and frankly they stunk yesterday. meanwhile, there is something brewing down here (besides a qb controversy) that i think is going to be really special. i expect a much better matchup when the titans travel to jacksonville in november. but for now, let’s stop the whining shall we?

  2. 2. Jeanne Says:

I don’t think I am whining at all.

You know why you guys didn’t do well on special teams? It is because we have awesome special teams. Brian Witherspoon is a beast and tore apart every team in the preseason in returns. Josh Scobee has one hell of a leg on him. Podlesh is okay but he gets the job done.

Your whining about me saying that our offensive line was injured is hypocritical if you discredit our special teams and our defense for making the pick. Also, you cannot deny that our offensive line lost us that game. There was no run game and Garrard got sacked seven times. Those two things lay heavily on the offensive line’s shoulders. Huh. I wonder why the offensive line didn’t perform as usual. Oh wait. It is was because they are all hurt.

Don’t be surprised when you head up against a healthy team in the coming weeks and you’re not as dominating. That is all I am saying.

  3. 3. Nick Says:

oh, i didn’t know that you wrote that one. i guess i expect a little more out of you. hahaha!
i understand your frustration, but still, you have to be a bit concerned that maybe you aren’t as good as you thought you were. i mean, if you break down the two teams even, we win on the o and d line, we have better lb’s and a better secondary (even though you’ve got mathis and nelson). not to mention that we now have an answer to your mjd in chris johnson, so we are better there too. both of our wr corps suck and i suppose i’ll give you the edge at qb. in the end, the better team (right now at least) won. at least you could give us that.
also, how awesome was that game last night!?!

  4. 4. Baldwin Says:

Brad Meester (our starting center) was already out for this game. Then we proceed to lose our 2 starting guards Vince Manuwai and Mo Williams during the game. One of our backups was shot last week. By the end of the game we had the only 5 available lineman playing. That is why the Titans won that game. The backups could not open any holes for our running game and we were forced to throw the ball way more than we normally would. Just keep patting yourselves on the back. The one good thing that came out of yesterday was that the Colts lost so we can all be thankful for that.

  5. 5. Nick Says:

i’m not patting myself on the back, and i get that you guys didn’t have a good deal of your starting line, but that’s not the only place we beat you. our secondary was lights out and we blew you away on the ground backup linemen or not. if you’ve read any of the stuff i’ve written on titansized.com you’d know that i have the upmost respect for the jags (albeit that i loathe their existence) and i view them as a very similar team to ours. i just think we’re better, healthy or not. guess we’ll have to wait and see. and yes, the colts losing may have been the best part of a fantastic sunday. see the chargers lose like that was quite satisfying as well.

  6. 6. Jeanne Says:

I think we should just agree to disagree. Though, I should note, if you don’t think that having second and third string linemen in for our run game didn’t hurt you didn’t watch the game. Because we couldn’t run, Garrard was forced to throw passes he normal wouldn’t which gave your secondary better opportunities. It was a domino effect all because our OL starters were off the field.

  7. 7. Nick Says:

i’m not discrediting the lack of offensive linemen and how crucial a role that may have played in the game, but that means you can’t discredit the way we played either. we’ll agree to disagree. i like how that sounds.

  8. 8. Josh Says:

Well all that matters is the Titans got the W. Excuses and whining to the media is something high school teams do. Grow the F up Rashean your a pro now lmfao.

  9. 9. Jeanne Says:

Again, it isn’t whining to say “their first stringers made our second and third stringers look bad”. I am sure some one ASKED Mathis “So why did you guys get sacked so much?” and he gave a good, honest analysis. You would hope they would look good against an injured line. Did you watch the Colts game? The commentators kept saying how obvious it was that Jeff Saturday wasn’t there. Those offensive linemen make the different.

My entire point is that you guys shouldn’t be shocked when you go up against a team with their line intact and you don’t completely dominate them.

  10. 10. BudAdams Says:

IT really doesn’t matter who was out…A loss is a loss is a loss….No matter how much you whine, you still have a big L next to the Titans on your schedule..

    Warmest Regards,

    Titans Fan

  11. 11. Jeanne Says:

I am really getting annoyed by the accusation of whining. I am trying to put into perspectives why your line dominated the field. I am not saying that it unfair or unjust or undeserved. I am not complaining about the loss. There is no whining. I am presenting the facts. The Titans beat up on the Jaguars backups. It is the same concept that is in preseason games. The Jaguars put Cleo Lemon, the backup quarterback, behind the starting line because they wanted to see what he could do. He did much better with them blocking for him than he did when the second stringers did.

I’m not saying you don’t have a good defensive line. But, just like Rashean Mathis said, facing a bad o-line makes your d-line look much, much better.

  12. 12. BudAdams Says:

no excuses bro…dudes get hurt in football, its a physical game.

…besides, shouldn’t you write a letter to Jags fans and tell them to buy tickets???

  13. 13. Jeanne Says:

It isn’t an excuse, it is a reason. What does the offensive line do? They protect the quarterback and open up lines of travel for the run game. Huh. I won’t why they couldn’t do that. Oh that is right. It is because everyone was hurt.

And there is no need for me to write Jacksonville fans. Ticket sales have been through the roof this year, despite Jacksonville being hit hard by the housing problem and it being a mostly blue collar town.

ps: I have lady bits, bro.

  14. 14. Nick Says:

    jeanne,
after seeing what sort of response this game and a few posts have created, we for sure have to do something cool before the next one. i mean, like it or not, we are a great rivalry and should be for some time to come.

in the meantime, send these mean titans fans over to titansized.com so they’ll leave you alone. at least there they can revel in the victory with other like-minded individuals.

  15. 15. Baldwin Says:

It’s true that no one gives our rivalry credit. I can only tell you how much we hate Jeff Fischer. Really the guy looks straight out of 1987, he just needs some coaches shorts and a members only jacket.

  16. 16. Nick Says:

better than that windbag of a coach you got down there. at least fisher knows what he’s doing. del rio just looks lost sometimes and he is the biggest blowhard to the media. kinda reminds me of his old boss in baltimore. billick may be the single worst human being on the face of the planet. ugh, i hate even saying his name.
and you can’t tell me that you don’t just love that sweet stache that jeff sports. especially when it starts getting cold and he grows out that little beard. mmmm.
