Well, the Jaguars don’t exactly have an excuse now. Keith Rivers has signed with the Bangels, setting the pay scale of both the draft picks before and after Derrick Harvey. It actually leaves Harvey as the only unsigned rookie. Thankfully, Brett Favre is taking away the attention from this issue. I am honestly glad the sports media is distracted from our plight because if Green Bay wasn’t taking up the news the NFLN would probably be harping on this. This is probably the only time that I am thankful for the media’s love affair with Favre.
With key players looking to rework contracts next year (including Maurice Jones-Drew and Reggie Williams) the Jaguars can’t exactly fork over a lot of money to a rookie who has yet to prove themselves. I see where the Jaguars are coming from. However, with rookies getting crazy bonuses and huge contracts, I can see where Derrick Harvey is coming from as well.
As a poor college student, I know there is a huge difference between 20 some odd million dollars and 30 some odd million dollars but some how I am really distracted by the word “million” and I find myself imagining how I would spend that much money. As a future teacher, I know that is a silly thing to dream about. I guess I understand Harvey’s agent fighting for that extra money, especially because of market value and all that but I don’t exactly agree with it. This is hurting Harvey’s standings with the team. It is also hurting him because he isn’t practicing and will be way behind his second round draft pick counter part Quentin Groves.
I will be happy when this is over.
In other news, Michael Silver is just silly. He ranks the team owners annually and ranked Wayne Weaver last. Suprisingly, people got angry and disagreed with him and sent him e-mails. Anyone who makes a list should expect that. However, he sat and responded to hand picked e-mails. Doesn’t he have anything better to do with football right around the corner?
